On Friday evening, July 11, 2014, Columbia
Lighthouse for the Blind (CLB) will
host its 2nd Annual Shot in
the Dark Golf & Dinner Classic,
a 9-hole golf classic in the dark,
at Woodmont Country Club in Rockville, MD.
The mission of Shot in the Dark Golf & Dinner Classic is to further
the reach of Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind by educating the community that people who are blind or visually
impaired can overcome obstacles to achieve new heights. Tony Cancelosi, President
and CEO of CLB said, “We are honored to continue this classic event and for the
community at large to recognize that people with disabilities have many skills
and can learn new skills such as golf.”
This
year’s event is co-chaired by Tony Pica and Michael Haddad, both of Capital One
Bank. “Capital One Bank is proud to once again partner with Columbia Lighthouse
for the Blind to support the Shot in the Dark golf classic,” said Pica. “I’m
honored to co-chair the event and help rally support for these important
programs serving the blind and visually impaired in our community.” “At Capital One Bank, our support for
Columbia Lighthouse and Shot in the Dark goes beyond sponsorship dollars,” said
Haddad. “Our dedicated associates will also provide much-needed volunteer
assistance, helping onsite at the event and working one-one-one with Columbia
Lighthouse clients.”
Preceding the classic, novice
golfers who are blind or visually impaired, will participate in a golf clinic
hosted by nationally, renowned golfers who are blind such as Bruce Hooper
and Phil Blackwell, National Champion of American
Blind Golf. During the clinic,
participants will have opportunities to learn different techniques, basics, and
fundamentals of golf.
