Real Food HEALs at ECO CIty Farms

As part of nationwide annual "Food Day" events this week, the local urban farm ECO City Farms is hosting a celebration showcasing healthy eating and active living (HEAL) for the whole family. The event will give community members of all ages a chance to gather and learn more about ECO City Farms' Edmonston and Bladensburg farms, sustainable agriculture, healthy eating and active living. It will include: food demos on making vegetarian sushi and other healthy, farm-based foods; ECO City Farms' own produce for sample and sale; fitness activities (such as a demo of United Way's Fun-Fly-Fit exercize program); free burritos from Chipotle; farm tours; Port Towns Youth Council's Wellness Ambassadors showing how to create a wellness plan and calculate body mass index; tastings of locally grown apples; painting of locally grown pumpkins; smoothie bike and smoothie tastings; a photo exhibit featuring the work of the farm's Seed-to-Feed Summer Youth Program, displays by Port Towns Community Health Partnership (CHP) organizations; music, and more.
