University Park Dog Club to Host Walk

A local dog club will host a dog walk June 10.

Want to take Fido on a walk with friends? Whether or not you live in University Park, the town's Good Dog Club is inviting you to join them for their first annual dog walk on June 10.

Linda Verrill, co-coordinator of the Good Dog Club, said in the past there was a dog walk affiliated with the Azalea Classic. However, this year the Good Dog Club decided to plan their own walk.

Verrill said the club is small, but tries to promote good pet behavior in the neighborhood.

Recently at a town meeting a resident told the town council that there were people walking their dogs off-leash through the neighborhood and in the park. He also noticed a few loose dogs roaming around. Verrill said it's more common during the summer months, for dogs to get loose, but she hasn't noticed anymore than usually.

She also has created a lost pet database, to help pet owners find their pets if they get loose.

Dogs and owners should meet everyone at the Queens Chapel Road park across the street from at 7 p.m. The walk will last until 8:30 p.m.

Owners should keep pets on the six foot or shorter leash and dogs must be accompanied by at least one adult.

A mapped route will be provided as well as water and bags to clean up after your dogs.

Attendees can also sign their dog up to the database.

Rain date is June 24.
