Sweet Jamaican Treats Debut at Riverdale Park Farmers Market

After moving to Prince George's County three months ago, Tavares, who has been baking and selling desserts for 30 years, decided to sell her Jamaican specialties at the local farmers markets.

Her Jamaican rum cake and coconut drop cookies are unique, while her most popular dessert is her red velvet cupcakes.

The Jamaican rum cake is a fruit cake made with fruit soaked in rum, wine and sherry and then puréed so it's not noticeable in the cake — other than the flavor. Her coconut drops and made with coconut flakes and ginger.
