Share a Day Trip With Your Special Someone

Can't afford a weekend getaway? Here are a few other options.

So it's the week before Valentine's Day and although you want to do something special with your significant other, by now most weekend excursions are booked.

Instead of spending an entire weekend away, taking a little day trip is another option.

Hop on the Green Line and spend the day in D.C. at the museums and elsewhere and have dinner at one of several restaurants offering Valentine's Day specials.

First stop: Archives-Navy Memorial-Penn Quarter

Spend the morning walking along the mall, checking out a number of the Smithsonian museums and maybe grabbing brunch at Cedar, located at 822 E Street NW.

Second stop: Gallery Place-Chinatown

It's either a short walk up from Penn Quarter or the next metro stop, but Chinatown offers way more than Chinese food.

Check out the International Spy Museum or the National Portrait Gallery. You could also spend some time shopping in some of the retail stores along 7th Street NW.

Then get dinner out at Matchbox or Asian Spice, if you want something ethnic.

Third stop: U Street Corridor

If you're looking for a late dinner destination or a late night out, U Street is the perfect place for you.

JoJo Restaurant is a good place to check out the jazz scene on U Street and a great place to dine as well.

Or head over to Alero for some salsa dancing and margaritas.

And if you really want a late-night bite after all that dancing, there's no better place than Ben's Chili Bowl.
