Sewer Repairs Postponed

Manholes are set to be replaced, which will cause a delay in the sewer work.

University Park residents won't need to avoid certain neighborhood streets just yet, as the sewer work set to start this week has been postponed.

"The Washington Suburban Santitary Commission has decided to replace each of the old manholes on the affected sewer lines, while they are replacing the lines themselves," said Public Works Director Mickey Beall in an announcement on the town's website. "Each new precast manhole must be custom designed to fit the specific location where it is being installed."

He said the scheduled work will be delayed a few weeks while the manholes are made.

WSSC was scheduled to replace dozens of sewer connections this week, as well as replacing several hundred feet of sewer lines on five streets in University Park.

Residents who have questions or concerns can contact Mickey Beall at mbeall@upmd.org or by calling town hall at (301) 927-4262.
