Whether they originated in Belgium or France — and there's considerable debate on that point — French fries have become a worldwide culinary phenomenon since their debut several centuries ago.
From the mayo-slathered street fare of Amsterdam to the thick-cut chips of England to those all-too-familiar red cartons of McDonald's fries, there's no shortage of variations on the theme.
But what about our corner of the world? When you're craving that most famous of fried snacks, where do you head?
For this week's Readers' Choice, we're posing a simple question: who makes the best fries nearby? Cast your vote in the poll below, and tell us in the comments what makes them oh-so-delectable.
Your choices are:

Because this poll is not scientific, the votes will not be the sole consideration in choosing the winner. The winner will be determined by Patch editors, and the selection will be based on poll results, ratings and reviews. Please vote only once per survey and per Patch. Other Readers' Choice rules accompany this post in the PDF.
8:02 am on Monday, March 26, 2012 Pfft! Only 2 in Greenbelt, and Joe's Deli is not listed. My vote is for the French Fried Sweet Potatoes at the Mishkan Torah Labor Day booth.
12:45 pm on Monday, March 26, 2012 Five Guys is not in Greenbelt; it is in unincorporated Lanham/Seabrook even if it has a Greenbelt mailing address. Somehow you missed the longstanding favorites--MacDonald's french fries, even the re-formulated ones, though Five Guys' variation is pretty good, too!
