I was on “Washington Watch with Roland Martin” last week.  This is a weekly TV show that deals with Black political issues, among other things. The roundtable discussion was very lively, but I was amazed at my fellow panelists’ response to something I said.

Cultural Tourism DC is presenting the sixth annual month-long program of international events in celebration of the more than 70 embassies in the city.   Residents and visitors have an opportunity to experience authentic food, music, dance and art of nations across the globe with tours of embassies and international cultural activities.

This week's post comes from green team member Elizabeth Buckner, who has a beautiful home garden and many tips to share! When I was 12 my family moved to a home heated by coal, and the back yard was packed with ashes (not pretty to look at ). I asked my mother if I could grow flowers from seeds. I dug right in and was rewarded with fragrant carnations, salpiglossis and moss roses.

Partners in Preservation: Historical Characters, Free Preservation Pops at Farragut Friday

Come down to Farragut Friday tomorrow to get a Free Preservation Pop, courtesy of Partners in Preservation. We will be down in Farragut Square from 11-2 to spotlight historic preservation and encourage voting to give away $1 million in preservation grants. We’ve partnered with Pleasant Pops to hand out free Preservation Pops to anyone who posts about the program on Facebook or tweets using #preserveDMV.

Last week, Gazette reporter Kate Alexander wrote a really detailed piece about how the recession impacted Montgomery County government employees.  Here is a link to the full article. I’m not going to dispute how hard the recession hit government workers.  I see no point in such a debate (and I’m not suggesting that it is even debatable).
