Mayor's Update on University Park Outages

The town's tree service is working to clear roads and passages in town.

The following was posted at 5 p.m. by University Park Mayor John Tabori:

PEPCO reports that approximately 431,000 of their customers are without service as of 2 PM this afternoon. Of those 150,000 are in Prince George's County. At this time, PEPCO is still assessing the damage. Their restoration work is focusing first on critical facilities, mainly substations, hospitals, and other emergency service entities, police, fire, and ambulance stations and systems. They expect to have a better idea of the extent of the damage and the
length of time it will take to restore full service by tomorrow afternoon. As of this afternoon, the estimate for full restoration of all customeers is seven days.

The Town's tree service is working to clear roads and passages in town. There are a number of sites in town where downed power lines exist. We will make every effort to get PEPCO to secure these lines, but until we do PLEASE AVOID THEM. There is NO way to tell if a line is live or not. Do not touch them or move them. Keep children and pets away from them.

Town crews will begin to pick up storm debris on Monday. Please stack debris by the curb. Please avoid placing it in the street as this can impede emergency vehicles. Also please avoid blocking sidewalks and driveways.

Outages and downed power lines should be reported to PEPCO at 1-877-PEPCO62. For outages, select #1, for emergencies such as snapped or downed poles or downed power lines, select #2. Please do not select #2 to report outages.

If you are ill or require power to operate life sustaining medical equipment, PLEASE consult with your physician or report to a hospital.

We will continue to put up emergency information as we become aware of it. See the message from the Governor's Office for additional safety information.

Thank you and take care,

Mayor Tabori
