Improvements at Busy Intersection Relieve Traffic

A small change to the intersection at Queens Chapel Road and East West Highway makes a huge difference for commuters.

Commuters may have noticed that the flow of traffic between Baltimore Avenue and Queens Chapel Road on East West Highway has become a little less congestion even during rush hour.

The change is due to a project that has been in the work for at least five years, according to State Highway Administration spokesman Charlie Gischlar.

Gischlar said the SHA added another left turn lane on East West Highway to turn onto Queens Chapel Road. He said this change improves capacity so more cars can turn.

"It became a bottle neck (on East West Highway), so we modified the concrete island and reduce the curb," he said.

A lot of the work was done at night, or the during off-peak hours from 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.

"We wanted to improve safety and getting rid of a lot of the congestion," Gischlar added.
