Numbers You Need To Know for Hurricane Irene Emergencies

These are the numbers to call if you have an issue during the hurricane.

If Hurricane Irene's wrath is as bad as many storms that have come and gone, residents in Riverdale Park and University Park need to be prepared for the power to go out, causing Internet and phone service to go out as well.

So relying on your cell phone then - here are the numbers you need to know in case of an emergency during the hurricane.

If a tree is down in the road or has fallen down on your house, or you have any other emergency during the storm, call the police department. They will get a hold of the department of public works or whomever is needed to help with the situation.

To get a hold of the town's department of public works call town hall.

3. Washington Gas

Number: 800-752-7520

To report a gas leak, if you smell gas in your home or for any other gas-related issues.

4. WSSC

For issues with water service to your home or apartment.

5. PEPCO

Number: 202-872-3432 or to report outages, call 1-877-737-2662. To report downed power lines or life-threatening emergencies, dial 1-877-737-2662, then press 2.

For any issues related to power, from reporting an outage to a downed wire.

6. Prince George's County Hurricane Hotline 

Number: 301-352-1290

Anything hurricane-related you want to report to Prince George's County. It'll work starting Saturday, August 27 at 2:00 p.m.

Finally 9-1-1 is the number to call for any life-threatening emergencies.
