Celebrate Juneteenth Today

Join the Annual Juneteenth Celebration at Watkins Regional Park in Upper Marlboro

To celebrate freedom and remember the joy of a newly emancipated group of slaves in Texas, there will be a Juneteenth celebration Saturday from 12 to 5 p.m. at Watkins Regional Park in Upper Marlboro.

This no-cost event remembers the day in 1865 when slaves in Texas found out they were free, more than 2 years after President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation.

There will be music and dancing. Families can enjoy the on-site attractions including Old Maryland Farm, the mini golf course and train and carousel rides for $5. Outdoor exhibits will tell the history of Juneteenth.
