Car Seat Checkup Event Offered by PG Police Friday

The county's police department will be providing free, back-to-school car seat checkups on Friday in Beltsville.

Are you 100 percent sure little Timmy is properly strapped into that car seat? If not, be sure to drop by the Prince George’s Community Federal Credit Union Friday in Beltsville, where the county’s police department and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration will be providing free, back-to-school car seat checkups.

It is estimated that three out of every four Maryland caretakers or parents use child vehicle restraints improperly, according to the NHTSA.

The event will include certified car seat technicians, there to “check for recalls, ensure car seats and boosters are installed correctly, and to check that the harness and vehicle installations are correct for the child,” according to a press release.

The entire process may take about 30 minutes, with organizers asking that drivers arrive onsite with their car seats installed. Also be sure to bring the car seat’s owner’s manual along too, if available.

The first few car seats that are found to be unsafe or recalls will be replaced for free by the federal credit union.
