Analysis: District 3 Hispanic Population Up Significantly Since 2000

The increase, which matches a countywide trend, has coincided with a decline in the African-American population.

County Council district 3 experienced "moderate to large" increases in its Hispanic population and corresponding decreases in its African-American population over the previous decade, according to an analysis from the Urban Institute.

The study, based on U.S. Census and American Community Survey data, looked at demographic shifts in Prince George's County between 2000 and 2010.

District 3 — which includes University Park, Riverdale Park, and Riverdale Heights and Hills — saw "small to moderate" decreases in real income and decreases in education levels during the same stretch, the institute reports.
