Sunday is National Ice Cream Day

Although the entire month of July is National Ice Cream Month, there's yet another excuse to enjoy this cold, sweet treat on Sunday.

July 17 marks National Ice Cream Day and with that comes some specials and deals at local ice cream shops.

Although locally it's mostly ice cream chains like Coldstone Creamery and TCBY in College Park and the new Yogi Castle in Hyattsville, there a few locals actually making their own.

Bowie-based Simple Pleasures, who make a weekly appearance at the Riverdale Park Farmers Market, said although they don't have an specific holiday special, they have daily specials.

Then in Mount Rainer, Island Style Ice Cream at 3829 34th Street offers carribean ice cream treats.

Finally, the University of Maryland has it's own creamery, however, it's not open on the weekends.
