Hyattsville CDC Seeks New Name for Future HQ

$75 restaurant gift certificate up for grabs in renaming contest.

The Hyattsville Community Development corporation is seeking the public's help in naming a stone Farragut Street house which will soon become its headquarters.

"A fresh start and identity for this old stony bungalow definitely calls for a new name," reads an announcement from the Hyattsville CDC sent out last week. "Before we began work, one neighbor's daughter said about the building, 'That house is crumbling like the Roman Empire.'"

The two-story house, which has sat abandoned for years, once was the headquarters for Storer Cable, one of the first cable broadcast companies to operate in Prince George's County.

When renovations are complete, the building will house the Hyattsville CDC, the Creative Edge Studio of Prince George's County and two artists-in-residence. The renovations are expected to be finished early next year.

Individuals can submit up to five new names for the building for the board of the Hyattsville CDC to consider. The board will then vote on the suggestions, and the winner will receive a $75 gift certificate to the Hyattsville restaurant of their choosing.
