Wine, War and More at Riversdale this Summer

The Riversdale House Museum is hosting several events in the second part of the summer.



Summer may be half over, but the Riversdale House Muesum is still in the swing of things with jazz, a battle reenactment, a wine tasting and more happening in coming weeks.

Jazz on the Lawn
When: 7 p.m., Aug. 7 and Aug. 21
Cost: Free
Enjoy a picnic on the scenic grounds of the Riversdale House Museum and free jazz. Bring food from home or buy dinner from the Calvert House Inn on scene. Concerts are free and begin at 7 p.m. The final two concerts of the season will feature Bruce Ewan and Brulee respectively. 

Battle of Bladensburg Encampment
When: Noon-4 p.m., Aug. 24
Cost: Free
War reenactment fun for the whole family! Hang out with British and American troops circa 1812 as they prepare for battle. Children's activities and music will be available throughout the event. 

Summer Sips
When: 3 p.m., Sept. 7 
Cost: $25 resident (Prince George's or Montgomery counties)/$35 nonresident, advanced registration required
Riversdale is keeping it local with this festive summer garden party. The event will feature fresh appetizers and drinks made locally. For those 21 years of age or older.

Grandparents Day Tours
When: 12:15 p.m.-3:15 p.m., Sept. 8
Cost: $3/adults, $1/child, free senior admission with paid tour
Enjoy a tour of Riversdale Mansion withe your grandparents or other special senior in your life. 

Out of the Attic Appraisal Fair
When: 10 a.m., Sept. 21
Cost: Free, registration required by Sept. 18
Love Antiques Roadshow? This is the event for you! Bring up to four items (photos of larger items are acceptable) to be evaluated by the DC-based auctioneer and appraisal firm, Weschler's. Per Riversdale's event listing, "Weschler's does not appraise antiquities, books, foreign coins, stamps, or toys."

Smithsonian Magazine Day Live
When: 1 p.m.-3 p.m., Sept. 28
Cost: Free, tickets required

Seasonal Selections
When: Noon-3 p.m., Aug. 11, Aug. 24, Sept. 22
Cost: Free
Watch guild members cook seasonal foods straight from the Riversdale gardens. Themes vary.
