University Park Women's Club Awards Scholarships to Area Teens

The club has been awarding annual scholarships for 67 years.

Two local teens have been awarded $1,000 scholarships to be used towards higher education by the University Park Women's Club. 

The club has been awarding scholarships to local students for 67 years. In order to be selected, applicants must have, "Outstanding personal and academic achievements, excellent recommendations by teachers and counselors, and accomplished essays led to their selection," stated the University Park town newsletter. 

The first scholarship, the Doris McPhee Scholarship, is awarded annually to a graduating senior at Northwestern High School. This year's recipient was Djeny Mokondji, who will St. Thomas University in Florida where she hopes to study biology/pre-med, according to the newsletter. 

The second scholarship is awarded annually to a resident of University Park, or to a relative of a member of UPWC. This year's winner, Olubukola Abiona, plans to attend UMBC in the fall where she will pursue a degree in biochemistry.
