Things Cool Off in Riverdale Park and University Park

Here's a look at the week's forecast, courtesy of the National Weather Service.

We’ve made it through the first heatwave of the summer, though not without losses. Five Marylanders have died this year from heat-related illness – the first was in Howard County, according to the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. 

But, according to the National Weather Service, we’re getting a break. Temperatures this week will reach 90 degrees just once, and there will be plenty of rain to keep things cool-ish.

Expect showers and thunderstorms Monday night, mostly before midnight and temperatures in the low-70s. Watch out for flash flooding in areas with heavy rainfall.

There’s a 50 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms Tuesday, otherwise expect a high temperature near 90 degrees during the day, dropping to the low-70s at night. There’s a 40 percent chance of thunderstorms Tuesday night.

Wednesday brings a slight chance of rain in the afternoon. Otherwise temperatures will be in the high-80s during the day, dropping to the high-60s at night, when there’s, again, a slight chance of rain.

There’s a 30 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms Thursday. Otherwise expect mostly cloudy skies and temperatures in the mid-80s. There’s a 30 percent chance of rain at night, when temperatures drop to the mid-60s.

Friday expect partly sunny skies and temperatures in the mid-80s.
