Report: Contractors Compete to Build, Design Purple Line

Six teams of contractors are competing to build, operate and maintain the Purple Line, The Washington Post reported.

The team of contractors that will design, build and operate the planned Purple Line light rail from Bethesda to New Carrollton will be announced in about a year, The Washington Post reported last week.

Six teams of contractors submitted qualification statements this month, and four or fewer of them will be selected by the Maryland Department of Transportation to be on the short list next month. Those teams will submit proposals by the fall, and one will be chosen about a year from now, The Post explained.

"The contract, which would probably span 35 to 40 years, could be worth more than $6 billion," according to The Post.
