AMVETS has been recognized as one of the most effective, efficient nonprofits when it comes to matching veterans with jobs.

The Call of Duty Endowment announced Thursday that it had awarded the Seal of Distinction to AMVETS, a nationwide nonprofit based in Lanham.

The award, aimed at recognizing organizations which “demonstrate he highest level of effectiveness and efficiency in placing veterans in jobs,” is accompanied by a $30,000 grant.

“We are thrilled that the Endowment has once again recognized our work at these centers by naming us an original recipient of their Seal of Distinction,” Beryl Love, National Programs Director for AMVETS, said in a statement. “AMVETS emphasizes effectiveness and efficiency in our work with veterans and this award is further proof of that.”

Call of Duty spokesman Ted Greener said AMVETS stood out because of its ability to place veterans at a contextually low cost.

“The Call of Duty Endowment uses sound business principals – developed by its founder Activision Blizzard – to evaluate organizations like AMVETS,” Greener said.

Activision Blizzard launched the Call of Duty Endowment in Oct., 2009. The company – known for producing popular video games, including Guitar Hero and World of Warcraft – aims to show that the private sector can be a driving force in helping veterans find employment.

In March it announced $1.1 million in grants to various organizations – including Amvets.  Since 2009, the Endowment has awarded close to $3 million in grants to 14 nonprofit organizations.

The result, Greener said, has been finding jobs for more than 1,100 veterans.
