Get Out Riverdale Park: Magic Wands, Herb Festival, Dance Theatre and More in Events this Weekend

Looking for some exciting things to do this weekend? Check out some of the fun things going on around town.

Arts Drop In: Magic Wands and Funny Hats

  • Description:  Kids will have the opportunity to make magic wands and create funny hats. Sponsored by College Park Arts Exchange. Ages 2-10. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Dallas Black Dance Theatre

  • Where:  Prince George’s Publick Playhouse 5445 Landover Rd, Cheverly
  • When:  Friday, April 26 – Sunday, April 28
  • Description:  The internationally renowned modern dance company has planned a special program in celebration of their 10th anniversary in residence at the Publick Playhouse.
  • Cost:  $7 per person, $6 per person for groups of 15 or more.

Montpelier Festival of Herbs, Tea and the Arts

Bowie-Crofton Garden Club Plant Sale

  • Where:  Bowie Library, 15210 Annapolis Rd, Bowie
  • When:  Saturday, April 27, 8 a.m.
  • Description:  25th Anniversary Annual Plant Sale.  Annuals, perennials, shrubs, herbs, vegetables and more.  Proceeds from the sale go to local scholarships and charities.
  • Cost:  Free

Pet Pal Fun Day

  • Where: Bowie Library
  • When: Saturday, April 27, 3 p.m.
  • Description: An employee from the Prince George’s County Animal Management Division will answer kids' questions and give tips on pet care. Goody bags available for children ages 4-8, while supplies last. 
  • Cost: Free

Rose Seminar at Patuxent Nursery

  • Where: Patuxent Nursery
  • When: Saturday, April 27, 11 a.m.
  • Description: A seminiar on roses and rose care.
  • Cost: Free

Bowie State Gospel Choir’s CD Release Concert

  • Where: Bowie State University
  • When: Saturday, April 27, 6 p.m.
  • Description: This concert is located in the Fine and Performing Arts builing and is free and open to the Bowie State community and the general public.
  • Cost: Free

Forest Heights Trash Cleanup

  • Where:  5508 Arapahoe Dr, Forest Heights
  • When:  Saturday, April 27, 9 a.m.
  • Description:  In celebration of Earth Day, the Town of Forest Heights will host a community trash cleanup April 27 from 9 a.m. to noon. 
  • Cost:  Free

Montpelier Farms Corn Maze and Family Fun Park

  • Where:  1720 North Crain Highway, Upper Marlboro
  • When:  Friday, April 26, 10 a.m.
  • Description:  10 acre corn maze provides fun for the whole family. Entrance also includes hay rides, petting zoo, pig races and more.
  • Cost:  Free

2013 Permaculture Design Course: Chesapeake Forest Gardens

  • Where:  125 Centerway, Greenbelt
  • When:  Friday, April 26, 9 a.m.
  • Description:  A twelve-day course over the span of eight months (April through November), in which students will dive deeply into the vision and practice of creating wholesome, dynamic, and resilient edible ecosystems using temperate deciduous forests as models.  
  • Cost: $1,000

American Legion Post 60 Bingo

  • Where:  2 Main St, Laurel
  • When:  Friday, April 26, 7:45 p.m.
  • Description:  Doors open at 5:00 pm. Bingo starts at 7:45 pm. Food and Snacks available for purchase. 25 games- all cash prizes guaranteed. $1,000.00 ball games. ATM available-no checks accepted.
  • Cost: $20

Spring Cheer Youth

  • Where:  Six Flags America, 13710 Central Ave, Largo
  • When:  Saturday, April 27 and Sunday April 28
  • Description:  Six Flags America's annual cheerleading competition on Saturday, April 27th-28th in the Gotham Arena.
  • Cost: Free with park admission.

Asian Visions - Asian Pacific American Heritage Month Opening Reception

  • Where:  Newton White Mansion, 2708 Enterprise Road, Mitchellville
  • When: Friday, April 26, 7 p.m.
  • Description:  Annual celebration of Asian and Pacific Islander Americans.  Dances of Japan and India, hands-on crafts from the Pacific Islands, Chinese martial arts, a pan-Asian snack buffet, and popular henna decorations are featured. Reservations are required. Please, no strollers allowed. 
  • Cost:  Free
