Azalea Classic 5K, Riverdale Elementary School Clean Up and More in Events this Weekend

Looking for some exciting things to do this weekend? Check out some of the fun things going on around town.

Azalea Classic 5K

Find out what's happening in Riverdale Park-University Parkwith free, real-time updates from Patch.

  • Where: University Park Elementary
  • When: Saturday, April 20, 8 a.m.
  • Description: USATF certified challenging coarse lined with beautiful azaleas. A 5K run, 1K family fun run, one mile kids challenge for kids 8 and older, and post party race with a DJ. Proceeds got to UPES.

Riverdale Elementary School Community Clean Up

  • Riverdale Elementary School
  • When: Saturday, April 20, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
  • Description: Community and parents are invited to join the PTO in a school grounds clean up.
  • Cost: Free

Treasure Island Pirates - the musical

  • Where:  Charis Center for the Arts, 13010 8th St, Bowie
  • When:  Friday, April 19, 7:30 p.m.
  • Description:  A musical appropriate for all ages about pirates, treasure and the search for a stowaway.

Girls Wear P.I.N.K. 2013

  • Where:  15210 Annapolis Rd, Bowie
  • When:  Saturday, April 20, 10:20 a.m.
  • Description:  Young ladies ages 12-24 are invited to a workshop about domestic violence prevention, and self-empowerment.
  • Cost:  Free

Summer Science Reading Program

  • Where: City of Bowie Gymnasium, 4100 Northview Dr, Bowie
  • When:  Saturday, April 20, 10 a.m. 
  • Description:  Students will participate in a five week program where they will read books and engage in activities related to science.
  • Cost:  $130

Race for F.A.C.E. 5k

  • Where:  8001 Sheriff Rd, Landover
  • When:  Saturday, April 20, 9 a.m.
  • Description:  Facing Autism with Children Everywhere- F.A.C.E. will be hosting its first annual Race for F.A.C.E. 5k.  There will be activities for the entire family to enjoy including face painting, balloon sculpting, raffles, games, prizes, and more. 
  • Cost: $10

Wee-Sale Children's Consignment Event-Prince George's County

  • Where:  Maryland State Government Greenbelt Armory: B1-115 Infantry Light,7100 Greenbelt Rd, Greenbelt
  • When:  Friday, April 19
  • Description:  Seasonal children’s consignment sale.  Kids items for sale include toys, clothes (sizes 0-16), baby gear, maternity clothes, books, and more.
  • Cost: Free

Earth Day Hike

  • Where:  6411 Oxon Hill Rd, Oxon Hill
  • When:  Sunday, April 21, 2 p.m.
  • Description:  All ages are invited to join Ranger Steph on a hike on Oxon Cove Park’s Woodlot Trail to learn how to care for Mother Earth. The trail is about a half mile long and includes some good hill-climbing.  Meet in the Visitor Barn. 
  • Cost: Free

Domino Day

  • Where:  601 Light St, Baltimore
  • When:  Saturday, April 20, 12:30 p.m.
  • Description:  The Maryland Science Center’s annual tilting and toppling extravaganza. Visitors are invited to watch world-renowned domino topple expert Scott Suko, along with a team of local engineering volunteers, create a massive domino tumble throughout the Maryland Science Center’s Legg Mason Gallery – 11,000 dominoes in all.
  • Cost: Free with paid admission to the Maryland Science Center.
