The Small Town Energy Program (STEP) is a unique program only offered to Hyattsville Residents to maximize energy efficiency in their home. You've probably seen the green signs around the neighborhood. So far, 45 Hyattsville Residents have already had their home "energy evaluations" done.
There are a couple "steps" that happen when you sign up for an Evaluation:
- The evaluation itself is a $400 cost that you only pay $100 for! What this evaluation gives you is all of your options - from simple cheap fixes to larger cost items. They measure your energy consumption, efficiency of your heating, cooling and hot water systems, insulation and even do thermal imaging.
- If you decide to move forward, STEP works with contractors that have already been vetted for their work and price. STEP acts as the main contractor to make sure that the work is done, and done right! STEP goes over the proposals from the contractors with you to help you maximize your investment.
- Here is the cool thing - STEP then helps you file the paperwork necessary to get Federal/State/County and PEPCO rebates. This is a HUGE time and money saver.
- If needed, STEP has also worked out a very low interest loan program. STEP is not in this to make money!! I can't stress that enough. The program started through a grant from the US Department of Energy and is only offered in College Heights Estates, University Park, Riverdale Park and Hyattsville. This is an experiment that is working! Check out the testimonials.
You can go direclty to the website (smalltownenergy.org) to sign up or you can call Suzanne Parmet (the Energy Coach!) at 240-695-3991 or via email email@example.com. You can also go to or host a House Party.
If you host a House Party, here is the deal. You have at least 10 people at your house for 60-90 minutes so STEP can talk about what they offer. For your trouble, they provide food/drink and give you $100 towards the cost of an Energy
Evaluation! The help set up and help clean up!
This program is ONLY offered for about another 9 months. Don't delay. Take advantage of this great opportunity. If you have had this done, post your thoughts about the process in the comments section.
