The town could see new artwork go up in public spaces later this year, with Beale Circle as a possible first location.
Riverdale Park residents may see more murals, sculptures, and paintings around the neighborhood soon following the town's approval of a public art initiative. The project—a joint venture between Riverdale Park Town Council, the Riverdale Park Arts Council, and the Hyattsville Community Development Corporation—aims to place art installations at three to five locations around town, with further expansion possible in the future. Councilman Jonathan Ebbeler (Ward 1) praised the measure, which passed the town council on March 4. “As the town of Riverdale Park continues to grow and evolve we need to define who we are and how we fit in with out surrounding municipalities,” Ebbeler said in an email. “Through this and other efforts we are trying to…

A photo exhibit features the heyday of the Baby Boomers, millions of whom settled in the DC suburbs.
The aging population in Prince George's and Montgomery counties is often the topic of discussion among local planning officials, with the Baby Boom generation entering the retirement years. That makes this area, with its millions of boomers—many of whom who came to DC decades ago and settled in—a prime audience for what The Washington Post calls a captivating photo exhibit of the 1970s, a decade known for disco, polyester, pollution and political strife. The exhibit, Searching for the Seventies: The Documerica Photography Project, seeks to tell the story of the turbulent decade in a series of color photographs taken for the Federal Documerica project. The Environmental Protection Agency initiated the project in 1971 to document the “…

What Chinese zodiac year are you born under?
A lot of people cringe at the thought of snakes, but if you're born in the Year of the Snake, as described by the Lunar New Year calendar, you are a quick learner, lead by wisdom and intuition. As Americans celebrate 2013, it can be interesting to take a look at what it means on the Chinese calendar. University of Maryland alum Kriss Mincey got through to Hollywood.
Kriss Mincey is a relative newcomer to the music scene. At Aberdeen High School, Mincey—who grew up in Baltimore, Richmond and points in between—took up dance and came out of her shell. She never returned to that shell. It was in College Park where she really began to explore music. As a student at the University of Maryland, Mincey found her niche. Now, Mincey, 22, is on the world's stage as a contestant on American Idol. She's made it to Hollywood. Beyond that, she can't say much. She chatted with Patch during a visit at Aberdeen High, where she and her sister, Lydia, gave us a tour and a look back at her time as an Eagle. She even ran into two of her favorite teachers from her days in the Science and Math Academy at Aberdeen. » Check …

Ms. Pompi Sorry for the mistake. The below listed statement by Mayor Archer on the Town Talk Blog on March 3, 2013 led me to believe the Town was going to pass this ordinance. We the residents of this town deserve better and I for one will not again grant Jey …   more ›
