Westboro Baptist Church Member Says Group Will Picket Sandy Hook Elementary

The group also picketed a Prince George's County High School last year, calling it "pervert-run."

A member of Westboro Baptist Church, the group that picketed Northwestern High School in Prince George's County last year is headed for Sandy Hook Elementary School.

Westboro Baptist is known for picketing funerals of soldiers and AIDS victims and now says it plans to picket Sandy Hook Elementary School, according to Examiner.com.

A day after Friday's shooting in Newtown, CT, where police said 20-year-old Adam Lanza killed his mother and then 20 children and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary, Westboro Baptist member Shirley Phelps-Roper posted a message on Twitter that the group would "sing praise to God for the glory of his work in executing his judgment."

On March 1, 2011, Westboro came to Northwestern High School in Hyattsville, which it called "pervert-run," bearing signs that said, "Pray for more dead soldiers," and "God is your enemy."

Westboro Baptist Church is a Kansas-based organization that has gained national attention through its pickets at U.S. soldiers' funerals, by assailing homosexuality and even calling Barack Obama "the anti-Christ." Previous messages by Phelps-Roper have come prior to protests by the group. However, the group has threatened to protest at other high-profile incidents in the nation, but then failed to show up.

In apparent retribution for the protest threat, the hackers group Anonymous posted information — names, addresses, telephone numbers — of Westboro members online.

CNET reports that the posting of the data is part of a campaign dubbed #OPWestBoro to counter the efforts of Westboro Baptist Church members. Westboro also released a video called "God Sent the Shooter," saying it is a "message for Connecticut."

Adam Lanza could have actually done many of us a FAVOR, had he chosen the fanatical "Westboro Baptist Church" instead of the Connecticut school! --Oh well, "Maybe NEXT time!"

These people are sick. Something should be done about this fanatical group of hate mongers spewing thier venom towards anyone who will listen. People like the westboro are dangerous , only they use hate filled words. I am sure God has a special hell in store for them. God said love thy neighbor as thyself. God does not preach hate. With a group like them we don't need terrorists.

Why is this on College Park Patch? Just because the author inserted a sentence about this group coming to somewhere nearby a year ago doesn't make it relevant to College Park.

I agree....just gives more publicity to these people. The media likes causing drama and most chaos derives from the media.

They sicken me so much, see below:

The Westboro Baptist Church is being attacked on all fronts after announcing it will picket Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut, where 20 children and six adults were brutally murdered on Friday.

The "hacktivist" organization Anonymous has led the charge, releasing what it claims to be private information of members of the anti-gay, hate-mongering religious group.

"I've never heard of Anonymous, but somehow they got our personal info," Westboro Baptist Church and their leader Fred Phelps tweeted Monday. "That is OUR info, not yours to give out! God will deliver us."

Anonymous has also threatened to "destroy" the group in a new video and may also be responsible for taking down its website, according to Forbes.com.

The Kansas-based Westboro Baptist Church is infamously known for picketing funerals of soldiers and victims of hate crimes. They threatened to picket the funeral of Christina Taylor Green, the 9-year-old girl killed in Tucson when Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was shot last year, but backed off in exchange for radio time.

The vile members of this group should be allowed to picket Sandy Hook Elementary ... and, hopefully, the Newtown community will show them what the "Wrath of God" has in store for them.

I can just imagine the greeting the Westboro Church people get from the police and other brave first responders in Newtown. Phred Phelps and his clan of fanatics, hate-mongers, and vicious, un-Christian lunatics have a special place in the contempt and disgust of real Christians and other people of faith.
