The efforts of a locally-based solar power outfit received a bit of airtime Wednesday on Baltimore NPR affiliate WYPR.

Maryland Morning's Stephanie Hughes profiled the work of the University Park Community Solar LLC, a group of investors looking to reduce local dependence on non-renewable energy sources by increasing solar power generation.

In June of 2010, the group funded the installation of a 22-kilowatt solar panel array on the roof of the University Park Church of the Brethren. The church buys some of its power at slightly below market rate, while the rest is sold back to the grid.

David Brosch—Ward 1 councilman and president of the group—discussed the project with Hughes, including the goal of installing future arrays across town.
