University Park Councilman-Elect David Brosch to Begin Term Next Week
Councilman-Elect Brosch looks forward to serving his community during his first term.
University Park's newest councilman-elect David Brosch has been an involved member of the community for the past 24-years, coaching soccer and basketball, serving on the local swim club board, and expanding the multi-materials recycling program. He is looking forward to his next role representing the residents of Ward 1 on the town council.
In the next few weeks, Brosch is hoping to host a meeting for the residents in his ward so that they know he is there to represent them, and to open a dialogue for any concerns they may have.
"I want to represent my constituency and I will attempt to reach out to as many of the 134 houses in my ward as possible," he said.
He is also looking forward to working with his fellow elected officials, and reaching out to the neighboring municipalities of Riverdale Park, Hyattsville, and College Park.
"We all need to be able to work well together," said Brosch.
He will be bringing to the council several years of experience in energy, housing, and planning. One of his first priorities will be getting up to speed on Cafritz and his community's many views on the development plan. Overall, Brosch said he feels that development is good for the community and good for Prince George's County.
"In terms of the development, we need to do it in a way that is smart and sustainable," said Brosch, who has a degree in urban planning and development.
This is Brosch's second stint as a University Park council member. He also represented Ward 1 in the late 80s and early 90s, but he recognizes that things have changed quite a bit since then.
"When you've lived here so long, you forget," he said. "I get the sense that someone 30 years younger has slightly different views and I have to be aware of that."
Brosch will be sworn in at next week's University Park Town Council meeting.
