SPEAK OUT: Anticipating the End of the World Dec. 21?
Is the apocalypse coming? Are you ready?
In 1999, tales of the “Y2K” bug sounded the doomsday alarm and people took rock legend Prince’s anthem “1999” to heart on Dec. 31, 1999:
They say two thousand zero zero party over, oops out of time. So tonight I’m gonna party like its nineteen ninety-nine.
When people awoke on Jan. 1, 2000, most computers were running just fine and the world kept turning.
Now, stories of the impending apocalypse (Dec. 21, 2012, according to some interpretations of the Mayan calendar) are rampant, even with reputable organizations like NASA debunking many of the most common apocalyptic theories.

If the government is saying everything will be ok, then we KNOW something bad is going to happen! Seriously; what SHOULD anyone do? if the powers that be decide times up, so be it. (Probably will NOT watch the news that day; not because I'm scared of anything happening, but because the newcasters will be overly-tiresome and keep trying to be cute and funny about the story - yawn)

People believe in the Mayan calendar but they don't believe in God? Seriously? I've had to constantly reassure my 20 year old son who has autism that the world IS NOT going to end on December 21st. Do you know how hard that is?

Good things can come of this nonsense. When the world didn't end in 1866, some Bible students properly looked into where their assumptions were wrong. The resulting Seventh Day Adventist church is now 15 million strong, and has innovated many things in education, healthcare, diet, and basic Christianity. It took the shock of "we were wrong!" to get this going.

Seems ironic that this story would appear on December 7th! A date noted for being a true day of "infamy". In the years that followed for many millions worlwide it would be their "end".

It's kind of silly, but I remember not believing in Y2K, but at midnight on Dec. 31, 1999 I was up, anxious and waiting for something to happen... obviously nothing did, but it's weird how these theories will play with your mind.
