Prince George's County Community College will be able to fund its Upward Bound Program for another five years, after it was recently awarded $1.25 million from the U.S. Department of Education.
The summer program allows for a selected 50 low-income, first-generation high school students to get the academic support they need to continue their education. It is geared to get the students college ready.
They receive tutoring, career, academic, personal and financial aid counseling.
PGCC's Director of Retention Services Kathleen Hopkins said the grant provides students the opportunity to overcome barriers preventing them from succeeding academically.
