Laurel Park Planning Major Redevelopment, Possible Hotel
The Maryland Jockey Club is reviving plans for a major redevelopment of Laurel Park, the century-old thoroughbred racing facility just outside of the City of Laurel. A draft proposal submitted to state officials last week calls for building a new clubhouse, moving the stabling area, building 300 new stalls, and adding a space for retail shops. A hotel could be in the cards, as well.
Two Women Robbed at Gunpoint in College Park
Two different victims were robbed at gunpoint in College Park over the past week, according to police. The first incident occurred early Tuesday morning on Paint Branch Parkway, while the second took place late Thursday on the University of Maryland's campus. In both cases, the victims were unable to provide a detailed description of the robbers due to their covered faces. Neither woman was injured.
Greenbelt Man Charged in Fatal Shooting of N. Carolina Man
Prince George's police arrested Brandon Anthony Battle, who is charged in a Hillcrest Heights killing.
Man Airlifted after Car Struck By CSX Train
A driver whose car was struck by a train in Brandywine, MD, Wednesday was evacuated by a Maryland State Police helicopter with life-threatening injuries, according to Prince George's Fire/EMS chief spokesman.
