Empanadas and Pickles — No, Not Together

What I picked up this week at the Riverdale Park Farmers Market

It was a beautiful day in the neighborhood Thursday and a great day to be at the farmers market.

In a Pickle made it's season debut - I didn't get a chance to ask owner Jason Gallant if he had anything new this season because there was a line there the entire hour I was at the market.

But beyond the tulips and the spinach from ECOFarms I picked up, I tried an empanada at Stone Hearth Bakery. Yes, the bakery that offers a variety of breads and cookies each week has ventured into empanadas.

For $3 a pop, the empanada is worth its value stuffed with chicken, potatoes and raisins. The flaky crust added to its homemade appeal.

About this column: Editor Sonia Dasgupta loves to cook. With Riverdale Park's weekly farmers market, she'll feature a vendor and their produce or products. If there is a meal that can be made with it, she'll cook it!
